High-tech prizes for FAU Tech researchers

Two researchers from the Faculty of Engineering receive prestigious awards from Bavarian state government
The Bavarian state government has awarded the Bavarian High-Tech Awards for the first time. Two of the awards were won by members of Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). Dr. Johanna Geiß and Tamara Hein each received a graduate prize.
Dr. Johanna Geiß from the Chair of Microwaves and Photonics received one of the five graduate prizes for her doctoral thesis on the topic “Distortion analysis and calibration of radar imaging systems with non-ideal antenna arrays.” She investigated why sensors in cars sometime recognize obstructions incorrectly and how these errors could be rectified, for instance in garages. For her contribution to safe mobility, she received the prize in the area of “Electrical engineering”.
Tama Hein received the graduate prize in the category “Chemical engineering”. She wrote her Master’s thesis on the topic “Investigation of plate catalysts in a novel heat transfer reactor concept for continual LOHC dehydration” at the Chair of Chemical Reaction Engineering. She investigated how energy can be stored in a more energy-effective way before it is used, as this energy supply process is not always efficient in spite of appropriate technology being available.
Together with the Bavarian Academy of Sciences (BAdW), the Bavarian state government recognizes pioneering research and groundbreaking innovations with the High-Tech Awards. There are four categories: the High-Tech Award from the Bavarian Minister President, the Pioneer Award from the Bavarian Academy of Sciences, the Early Career Prize from the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts and the Graduate Prize, which is awarded for five categories and aims to recognize final theses written by outstanding talents from Bavaria.
Each of the High-Tech Graduate Awards are worth 2,000 euros.
