Shanghai subject ranking 2024: Faculty of Engineering with Telecommunication Engineering among TOP 50 worldwide

FAU is listed among the 100 most prestigious universities in the world in four subjects. In Germany, FAU even managed to jump into the top 10 in seventeen subjects. A total of more than 5000 universities all over the world were evaluated in the ranking.

In Telecommunication Engineering, FAU came in the top 50 worldwide. With Energy Science and Engineering, Dentistry and Oral Science and Human Biological Sciences, a further three subjects at FAU are in the top 100.

Top places again for the Faculty of Engineering in the national ranking

FAU’s Faculty of Engineering has once again achieved outstanding results in the 2024 national rankings, placing in the top 10 in several subjects:

  • Telecommunication Engineering leads the rankings as it has done for the last four years.
  • Electrical & Electronic Engineering takes 2nd place again.
  • Materials Science & Engineering climbs from 5th to 2nd place.
  • Energy Science & Engineering achieves 4th place.
  • Biomedical Engineering achieved 5th place.
  • Metallurgical Engineering and Nanoscience & Nanotechnology rank 7th place.
  • Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering complete the result with 9th place each.

About the ranking

The Shanghai subject ranking, officially known as the “Global Ranking of Academic Subjects”, has been published on an annual basis by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 2003. A total of 55 individual subjects were assessed from the fields of natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences on the basis of various indicators. The ranking focuses on research. Indicators taken into consideration include research publications, citations, Nobel prizes and Fields medals. More than 5000 universities throughout the world were assessed for the ranking in 2024.
