Host research group

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Chair of Surface Science and Corrosion (Prof. Dr. Sannakaisa Virtanen) & Chair of Materials Science and Engineering for Metals (Dr.-Ing. Christopher Zenk)

Research period at the Faculty of Engineering, FAU

August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2026

What is the focus of your research during your visit?

My work during my Humboldt Fellowship will focus on understand high temperature corrosion mechanisms in newly developed Fe-based superalloys and Ni-based superalloys with emphasis on the role of metal 3D printing processing and microstructure.

I choose FAU because

I chose FAU because of its strong tradition in corrosion science, physical metallurgy, and alloy development. Prof. Dr. Sannakaisa Virtanen is one of few people in the world that works on both high temperature corrosion and aqueous corrosion. The experience at FAU will widen my horizons and prepare me for a strong academic career in the future.
