Shanghai Ranking: FAU in the top 100 worldwide in five subjects
2023 Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects has been published
According to the Shanghai subject ranking 2023, FAU is among the top 100 universities in the world in five subjects:
- Energy Science & Engineering
- Telecommunication Engineering
- Medical Technology
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Electrical & Electronic Engineering
A new addition to the year before is Electrical & Electronic Engineering, for which FAU was ranked 91.
In Germany, FAU even managed to jump into the top 10 in twelve subjects. A total of more than 1900 universities from 104 countries were evaluated.
Compared to other universities in Germany, FAU made it into the top 10 with 12 subjects, two more than the year before. As was the case in the last three years, Telecommunication Engineering is at the top of the ranking, followed by Energy Science & Engineering in second place for the fourth time in a row. Electrical & Electronic Engineering moved up two places to rank second. Materials Science & Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering are ranked 5th; Chemical Engineering, Nanoscience & Nanotechnology and Mechanical Engineering 6th; Business Administration and Biomedical Engineering 7th; Chemistry came in 8th and, finally, Medical Technology in 10th place.
About the ranking
The Shanghai subject ranking, officially known as the “Global Ranking of Academic Subjects”, has been published on an annual basis by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 2003. A total of 55 individual subjects were assessed from the fields of natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences on the basis of various indicators. The ranking focuses on research. Indicators taken into consideration include research publications, citations, Nobel prizes and Fields medals. More than 1900 universities from 104 countries were assessed for the ranking in 2023.
